Path of Exile item upgrading Upgrades

Upgrades to items are a frequent and essential way to boost the performance of many items in Path of Exile. They can be a fantastic source of additional damage and more AD or even more attaches.

Often times however, upgraded Common and Magic gear is outclassed by Rare-grade gear due to their requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades can be applied to both weapon and armor items. They increase the stats of whatever item upgrader mod they are attached to. Upgrades to armor are available in the world of the game and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. They can also be salvaged by using an expert or higher salvage kit to recover upgrade components from items.

The level of an armor's or weapon's upgrade determines the amount of damage it can absorb. A piece of armor upgraded to maximum upgrade level will increase its damage absorption. However, it's important to keep in mind that this will raise its weight, requiring it to be heavier than it was before.

There are several kinds of armor upgrades available in the game and they all have different effects. Some upgrades give armor an extra amount of health points while others make it lighter and more powerful. The type of armor upgrade that an item can receive will be indicated by the name of the upgrade, as illustrated in the table below.

Certain upgrades require magic or a hybrid technology and magic, which is indicated by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table below. Some upgrades also require charges in order to be used. These are identified as "Charges" entries in the table. The charges for these upgrades refresh daily or never expire depending on the upgrade.

The cheapest way to upgrade armor is with Iron Ore, which can be gathered by exploring the area and looting chests of minor loot. Titanium is more expensive, but can be found in the smelters of Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Some upgrades, such as the Reforge and the Hot Potato Books, can only be applied to higher level armor pieces. These upgrades can provide significant improvement in performance and are worth the cost, especially for single-handed weapons.

A piece of armor upgraded to its maximum upgrade level will greatly increase its defense values, but the player should be aware that increasing its weight can drastically decrease its agility and speed. It is not recommended to upgrade armor above +9. The added defense generally isn't worth the weight and power costs of the upgrades.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades give players to enhance certain aspects of their weapon. Upgrades can improve the accuracy of a rifle, or the damage that shotgun shells do. Some weapons have special upgrades to improve their inherent capabilities. Frictionless materials (improves stability, minimizes the possibility of overheating) and Kinetic coils (increases the projectile's acceleration for greater damage) are two examples.

The majority of weapon upgrades require a whetblade, one of three Power Dices and a different amount Minerals and Item Upgrader Mod Erons. These are obtained through either finishing side quests, killing a certain number of monsters or bosses or by contacting the Weapon Upgrade NPC located in Central Flarine.

These will have a better chance of bringing you the highest tier bonuses and blessings.

To increase their level faster, many players prioritise upgrading their weapons. Players should also upgrade the weapons their teammates use to boost their strength. Shepard, for example, should upgrade the M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R. This will increase the effectiveness of the weapon when used by biotic specialists like Grunt and Tali.

Jewels

Jewels are placed in the sockets of armor and weapons, increasing the stats of a weapon and providing additional effects. Jewelry crafting is a method of making them, where you combine a gemstone with a number specific reagents on a jewelry table. The higher the grade of the jewel the better the secondary effect. These reagents are available from Treasure Goblins and World Bosses all over the world, or by salvaging Legendary Gear. You can also purchase them from The Jeweler in exchange for gold and Scattered Prisms.

The Jeweler can enhance the quality of the gem in stages that range from Crude up to Royal. Based on the tier of the gem it will give different stat boosts when it is inserted into weapons, equipment and jewelry.

The Jeweler can create all tiers of gems, apart from the rare and legendary ones that you must be at certain levels to gain. Jewels can be substituted with another one without damaging the original. However you can only swap out one jewel in an item of equipment only once.

It is common to use more jewelry to enhance the appearance of. In addition to improving performance, the jewels create an area that is stronger than metal, which means that repeated friction with pivots doesn't damage them as easily.

In addition to the above-mentioned upgrades players can also obtain glyphs for their weapons and shields from a Glyphmaster. They offer a small benefit and can be swapped freely, but are not guaranteed to drop as loot. Glyphs, like jewelry, can be upgraded at the Jeweler to exchange Scattered Crystals and gold. Glyphs can also be taken out from the inventory, and they are returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components, like aegis and traits, aren't swappable and can only be retrieved using an Upgrade Extractor, or by salvaging them using Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool.

Trinkets

Trinkets are items of equipment that provide an array of small, but beneficial advantages to your hero. They can be obtained in the starter areas as loot or personal story rewards from vendors, or by doing road interactions. They can also be found on the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers.

The first trinket a player can unlock is the cloak. It gives a small but valuable boost in speed of movement and evasion. After that, they'll be able to get amulets, rings, and necklaces in a similar manner to the way a player obtains armor and weapons. Each piece of equipment has a slot for an upgrade which can be universal or jewel. Universal upgrades are smaller and can be used on any device. Jewels cannot be upgraded or Item upgrader mod replaced, and can only be used with certain trinkets.

These trinkets grant additional buffs and abilities that are active even when the hero isn't fighting. This allows the hero to perform better when they are not active and also helps fill in the void of a strong team or any talent tree slots that would normally be filled with the hero's Best item upgrader statistics.

A good guideline for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best-in-Slot) items that you won't be replacing soon, followed by any items with desirable stats, but less important than the iLevel of the item that is being upgraded. This is especially true when you want to upgrade multiple statistics on an item upgrader. It's best to upgrade just one crucial stat rather than two suboptimal ones.

In the beginning of the game, junglers will usually want to upgrade their yellow trinket into a red one, while top and middle players usually choose the pink or green ward (depending on the game's matchup). These choices will have an impact on the hero's ability to manage the map.

In addition to the items listed above, players will find other trinkets that form of trophies and rewards throughout the game. They can be obtained through completing certain milestones within the story. For example, completing a chapter’s main quest or beating a boss. These achievements can be seen by selecting the relevant achievement from the reward tab of the hero menu.
